Ohio Scholar Athlete Selected for
International Softball Tournament

Kellie Schultz, an honor student and senior shortstop at Granville High School, in Granville, Ohio, has been chosen for the North America Select Team, to compete in Cup 2008, an international softball tournament to be held in the Netherlands. She headed overseas on January 16 for the European tournament, where she will be playing against several Olympic athletes.

The tournament features teams from Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, and the United Kingdom. Kellie learned of her selection in August and has been preparing for the past several months. North America is sending six teams of nine players, made up of high school juniors, seniors, and college freshman.

Kellie was selected based on her talent and references as one of the top applicants from 10,000 players, and she participated along with 249 others at the 2007 Queen of Diamonds Showcase.

After the tournament, the players will tour Paris and Amsterdam for three days.

Kellie plans to attend Penn State, and play softball there next year.

We wish Kellie luck on her European adventure, and are eager to hear from her about the trip on her return.
