Leopold became a member of the National Society of High School Scholars his second semester of his freshman year of high school. He quickly became very active in the society by advocating awareness of NSHSS in his high school and designing and executing a volunteer project focusing on environmental awareness. Leopold’s hard work did not go unnoticed by NSHSS. In fact, he was named the first Ambassador for the Society! Leopold became a strong leader in the Society and that to did not go unnoticed. He soon got accept to a prestigious college, Lionstown University. Leopold loved working with the Society so much that he wanted to continue working for them during college by serving on the student council. Knowing that he was destined to be a leader, not only his community but around the world, Leopold decided to apply for the NSHSS mascot position. When Leopold came in to interview for the position, the NSHSS staff fell in love with him. Everyone agreed that he was perfect for the position. NSHSS gladly named Leopold the Lion the mascot of NSHSS and gave him the second floor corner office. Leopold happily jumped into the role, and began helping the fee waiver committee, the event coordinator, accounting, and the member services team with their daily tasks. Leopold is serious about his work, but he does have a rather playful side. By day Leopold is a responsible adult, but by night he is a mischievous cub. After the employees of NSHSS are gone for the day, Leopold plays pranks on them. He likes to rearrange fee waiver applications, hide the calculators in accounting, and move stuff around on the member services team's desk. Of course, he is all fun and no harm.
During his time at Lionstown University, Leopold started traveling with the Society and helping with the member events. He loved meeting with the new students and networking with colleges around the globe. This made Leopold realize that he loved to travel and meet new people. When he is not at work, he is usually on a trip to visit somewhere new. For entertainment during his flights, Leopold likes to take his favorite movie, The Wizard of Oz and his favorite book series, The Chronicles of Narnia.
When Leopold is not traveling, he coordinates NSHSS staff lunches. When coordinating these lunches, Leopold either wants Mexican or striped meat. Since striped meat is so hard to find in Atlanta, the NSHSS staff members usually end up at the local Mexican restaurant. Being the social lion that he is, Leopold spends most of his lunch taking pictures to put on Facebook. He does not get to spend a lot of time with his close friends because of traveling, so he likes to keep them updated with what he is doing by Facebook. He loves to post status updates and pictures of NSHSS staff lunches, member event and his personal trips. So if you want to know where Leopold is just check his Facebook page.
If one day you happen to run in to Leopold on one of his journeys, please stop and take a picture with him. As we all know, he loves meeting new people! If you are unsure if you have the right lion or not, remember he is usually wearing his favorite royal red shirt with NSHSS written in gold.
