NSHSS recognizes students who excel academically and provides valuable benefits that help students further their academic, leadership, and volunteerism goals through scholarships and essay competitions. Through our numerous partnerships our Scholars gain access to life changing programs (summer study, study abroad, world-class academic and leadership programs) and savings on testing and educational services and webinars. We encourage you to review the benefits offered to our members.

NSHSS PARTNERSHIPS and EVENTS

NSHSS fosters diversity-conscious partnerships around the globe such as with the Central Intelligence Agency, the U.S. Department of State, Major League Baseball, Abercrombie & Fitch, Aflac, Duke Energy, and the Office of Naval Research among others. NSHSS also enters into strategic partnerships with educational organizations such as The Princeton Review and Zinch that provide meaningful content, programming and discounts to our student members.

NSHSS Member events are celebrations of academic achievement. NSHSS member events are open to all members, their immediate families and educators, and are held throughout the United States each year and abroad. Mr. Nobel participates in the events as a featured speaker.

NSHSS also connects with counselors and other academics at a number of conferences such as the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), NAFSA: Association of International Educators, and the European Association for International Educators (EAIE).

EDUCATORS OF DISTINCTION

NSHSS also recognizes the value of teachers through our Educators of Distinction Program. Currently, our student members have the opportunity to select one teacher who has made a positive impact on their lives during their high school career. The student may log in to complete a nomination form and submit it online.

We receive notification immediately that one of our student members has nominated one of their educators, we contact the educator to let them know that one of their students recognized them as an NSHSS Educator of Distinction. All of our Educators of Distinction are invited to attend any NSHSS member event around the country.

NSHSS is pleased to introduce our 2012 Claes Nobel Educator of the Year Award recipient, Patricia Wilson, Social Studies Department Chair at Bloomington North High School in Bloomington, Indiana. Ms. Wilson received her award at the annual scholar recognition event at The Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta, GA.

Here is what our educators told us about their experience of being honored as an NSHSS Educator of Distinction:

"Thank you, the NSHSS and Mr. Nobel so much for a truly wonderful day yesterday [Scholar's Day]. It was such an honor receiving, not one, but two awards; I was overwhelmed to say the least. I will not soon forget the pride I felt when I walked up to get my plaque and check and certificate. Thank you again for the great honor of recognizing my work."

"Scholarship is a high ideal which I believe we should all strive to attain. I feel that it begins first in the family. As a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, I understand and believe in the importance of a family. My first family inspired me to pursue scholarship, and my family now supports lifelong scholarship immensely. Like your family (Mr. Nobel) we want to recognize and support the scholar in all of us.

"Time spent teaching is never lost. The highest compliment that a teacher can receive is knowing that a difference was made in the life of a student. Teaching is a profession of intrinistic rewards but to receive accolades such as this is always an honor. Thanks to the NSHSS and the Nobel family."

NSHSS: COLLEGE RESOURCE

"I commend students, parents, teachers and other education professionals who research any organization before joining (especially when there is a membership fee). I too researched the NSHSS before nominating my first student over seven years ago. I find it distressing to read comments on the internet regarding the legitimacy of The National Society of High School Scholars. It is my goal to share our story in hopes of dispelling this notion."
