NSHSS at NASDAQ
NSHSS was invited to visit the NASDAQ stock exchange facility in New York City after executives met NSHSS members at the World Diversity Leadership Summit in July. With a new focus on “going green,” NASDAQ officials are interested in having NSHSS Chair Claes Nobel, with his passion for environmentalism, participate in future NASDAQ events.
The NASDAQ (acronym of National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System) is an American stock exchange and largest electronic screen-based equity securities trading market in the United States. With approximately 3,200 companies, it has more trading volume per day than any other stock exchange in the world.

Corporate Relations executive Carla Maxwell Ray and corporate intern Marcela Munoz visited the NASDAQ MarketSite, on August 6, which is the physical presence of the NASDAQ stock market. Located in Times Square in the Condé Nast Building, the exterior wall of its seven story cylindrical tower is an LED electronic video display that provides market quotes, financial news, and advertisements. They toured the facility with Tania P. Lisitski, Events Coordinator of MarketSite, and visited the TV studio where the closing of the bell is recorded, with a different company closing the bell.
They also got to experience the ringing of the bell at market close at 4 p.m. and afterwards met with Maribel Aber, Vice President of Special Events & International Programs at NASDAQ MarketSite. They discussed inviting NSHSS students and Mr. Nobel to attend a future bell ringing.

UCLA Member Event for High School Juniors
On Friday, August 25, 2008 NSHSS members and parents from the state of California gathered at The University of California, Los Angeles, for an admissions-focused member event. Families heard from UCLA Associate Vice Chancellor Tom Lipsa, who congratulated scholars for their academic commitment. Members learned about the admissions process from admissions counselors as well as a student panel discussion led by current UCLA freshmen. Carla Maxwell Ray of NSHSS led the members through the NSHSS member induction pledge. The day also included lunch and a campus tour. For those members interested in considering UCLA as their college of choice, please visit the Undergraduate Admissions website at: http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/.
