Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU)

Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) was established in 2000, based on a vision of freedom, peace and humanity, international mutual understanding, and the future shape of the Asia Pacific region. APU is dedicated to fostering a greater understanding of the Asia Pacific region and the development of young leaders who will play active roles in various fields. In classrooms, this is done academically in the colleges of Asia Pacific Studies which focuses on sociology, international relations & area studies, and Asia Pacific Management, which specializes in international management and business. Extra-curricular and social activities play an equally vital role in student learning.

APU’s vibrant multicultural community consists of approximately 2,600 international students from 81 countries and regions throughout the world who study alongside 3,200 Japanese students. Aleksander Jawad, a study abroad student from Sweden, shares from his experience at APU:

This is where the world meets. APU provides an excellent arena for international exchange with the many nationalities that are represented here. Experiencing this international environment is definitely the most valuable of all of my experiences at APU.

Like Aleksander, many students and alumni have created an international network through day-to-day interactions with students and faculty from within Japan and overseas. And while APU provides a unique international environment, students can appreciate the small-town atmosphere of Beppu City, famous as Japan’ leading hot spring resort with a tradition of hospitality to visitors from around the world. APU campus is located on a hill with stunning views over the township of Beppu and its picturesque bay. We encourage you to join our unique community at APU and play a role in shaping your world!
