India Member Sharad V. Sagar Named Horlicks Wiz Kid 2008

Sharad V. Sagar, now in 11th grade at St. Dominic Savio's High School, Patna, India, has been selected for the second year in a row to represent the state of Patna at the national finals of the prestigious “Horlicks Wizkids 2008” competition. Horlicks Wizkids, India's largest interschool fiesta, is a competition with over 30 different literary, art, writing, speaking, singing, dance, musical, and cultural events for students in grades 1 through 12. Nearly 5,000 students from 40 schools competed to reach the finals.

Now in its sixth year, the Horlicks Wizkids program believes that by giving an opportunity for children to participate in an interschool event it is creating a confident, self–reliant, and responsible generation that has the ability to "Make My World."

This event also features a unique personality contest--Horlicks Wiz Team. It recognizes outstanding students of India, “all-rounders,” who demonstrate a good balance of character and competence. Sharad will compete with winners from Pakistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka at the Horlicks Wizkids South Asia Finals in November in Bangalore. The winners of Wiz Team 2007 represented India at a youth conference held in Brazil. Wiz Team 2008 winners will go to the UK for a global youth initiative conference.

Sagar was named the “Most Promising Speaker” at the Hector Angus Brown Debate 2008, was selected to represent India at the United Nations’ Children's Conference 2008 in Norway, and was selected to represent India in the JENESYS 2008 cultural exchange program in Japan (East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths).
