AP Credits and Scholarships Pay Off for Georgia Member Travis Schneider

On behalf of the HAVE IT YOUR WAY Foundation, Burger King recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Travis Schneider of Lilburn, Georgia, a 2008 honor graduate of Parkview High School, as a Burger King Scholar. Students are selected from a national pool of applicants and winners are selected by Scholarship America, one of the nation's largest nonprofit private-sector education support organizations. BURGER KINGŪ Scholars awards assist students who work part-time and excel academically. Since 2000, the BURGER KINGŪ Scholars Program has awarded more than 11,000 scholarships throughout the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Recipients work at a part-time job an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year, and are actively involved in community service activities. Application deadline is February 15, 2009.

Closer to home, Travis also received an award from the Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance Scholarship in the amount of $1,500. His father, Scott, is an Air Force veteran who served during the Tet Offensive in Vietnam. Travis has enrolled in the University of Georgia in Athens as a pre-med student majoring in biology with 40 AP transfer credit hours, which certainly has helped him to start down his path to higher learning.
