Harvard Member Event

SHSS member events are open to all members and their families at no charge. Advisory Board Chairman Claes Nobel participates in the events as a featured speaker, and also meets and greets members. Advisory board members are invited to attend (participation depends on their individual schedules). Events include speakers on college-related topics; in 2005 members had the opportunity to hear from and meet the Deans of Admission from Harvard, SMU, and Johns Hopkins, and the Dean of the Honors College at the University of Oklahoma. Events also typically include scholarship presentations, student council speakers, and teacher recognition.

In 2005, NSHSS hosted member gatherings at Harvard University in Boston; on the Hornblower Yacht in San Diego; at Southwest Airlines Headquarters in Dallas; U.S. Congress Cannon Room in Washington, D.C., and the Oklahoma City Petroleum Club.

Our next member event will be sponsored by the Temple University (Philadelphia) Honors Program on March 22, 2006. Check the website frequently for latest events and locations.

Claes Nobel with University of Oklahoma President David Boren and OUHSC Provost Joseph Ferretti
The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) hosted the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) Member Event in Oklahoma City on November 5, 2005. The event was held at the Oklahoma City Petroleum Club, a beautiful private club on the 35th floor of one of the city's few "skyscrapers." Mr. Nobel was the program's featured speaker, which was attended by 250 people including student members, families, and other guests. On hand to greet and welcome the guests were Dr. Joseph Ferretti, Senior Vice President and Provost of the OU Health Sciences Center, and Dr. Robert Con Davis , Honors College Dean at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.

Dr. Davis accepted a scholarship on behalf of NSHSS member Christopher Brydges, a freshman from OU, after which honors were bestowed upon several Oklahoma teachers. The state of Oklahoma is appreciative of the recognition by the NSHSS of some of their finest students and teachers.  - MORE -
