Spotlight on Service: Volunteering with Projects Abroad
Student volunteers in the Peruvian Andes

What are you doing on your summer vacation?

Some of your fellow Society members will be going to places like Nepal to teach English and serve the community there. NSHSS partner, Projects Abroad offers opportunities to ‘plug in’ to ongoing projects. Join Projects Abroad for your summer break.  Volunteer programs operate in seventeen different countries around the world. You join a program in operation, so the duration of your service is more flexible.  Projects Abroad is for everyone seventeen and over.

Projects Abroad has expert staff in every destination so that someone is able to help you out when you get overseas.  Each destination has been selected carefully with your safety and security in mind. Summer programs are a popular option.  You can spend your summer helping whether it be on an archaeological dig in Romania, teaching at a summer school in Togo or working with turtles in Mexico.  You decide how long you want to go away for and where you want to go. There is no need for teaching or language qualifications.  You will be fully supported by local staff when you arrive.

This is what some volunteers have said when they got home.

The most exciting thing just happened; about fifteen minutes ago I delivered a baby!!!!  I actually got to do the whole thing myself, pull it out, cut the cord, wash the baby etc.  It was the most amazing thing I have ever done in my whole life, such an incredible experience!  It was a boy!”

Every morning when I woke up inside my mosquito net and remembered I was in the Amazon cloud forest ( paradise on earth) I couldn’t help grinning.
