Advisory Board Highlight - Tyra Banks

NSHSS is pleased to highlight Advisory Board Member Tyra Banks, supermodel and creator and executive producer of the popular TV show "America's Next Top Model." She has also established the Tyra Banks TZONE Foundation, an annual summer program to help adolescent girls (age 13) from Los Angeles schools overcome self-esteem problems. The summer program is free to the girls, and Tyra not only helps select the participants, she also spends several days camping out with the kids.

In addition, she has established "The Tyra Banks Scholarship," a fund that grants African-American girls the opportunity to attend her alma mater, Immaculate Heart High. Tyra doesn't just talk about making a difference in people's lives; she lives it.

Don Banks, community leader and father of NSHSS Advisory Board member Tyra Banks, addressed members in August 2004 at a member event on the UCLA campus, talking about his daughter's rise to success, and encouraging all members to pursue their dreams.
