The School for the Talented and Gifted at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center in Dallas, Texas

We are pleased to recognize The School for the Talented and Gifted at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center in Dallas, Texas, as this month's Claes Nobel School of Distinction. Locally referred to as TAG or TAG Magnet, the school is ranked #1 by Newsweek in its Best American High Schools for 2006. The public school draws students from the entire Dallas Independent School District. Last year students received 18.5 million dollars in college scholarships; 40% of the student body receive free or reduced lunch. TAG has also been ranked number one by the Texas Educational Excellence Project at Texas A&M University, which also ranked the school number one in the state in African-American and Latino achievement.

Other awards include 2003 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School; Awards from the Advanced Placement Program of the College Board: Recognition for having the highest passing rates in the world for Art History, Computer Science, and Human Geography for 2004-05; Ranked first in the state of Texas for overall passing rates as a school since 2001; Rated "Exemplary" by the Texas Education Agency every year since the inception of the program in 1990; Texas Business Education Council Honor Roll Award in 2004; UIL Champions for District 9-AAAAA in both 2004 and 2005
