2013 NSHSS Millennial Scholar Career Survey

The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) presents its sixth annual survey results charting the preferences and attitudes of high-achieving students in the area of career choices, employers, workplace environment, technology, and communications. The 2013 survey provides insight into the career expectations and aspirations of our high school and college students, as well as young professionals. Each year, these findings are used by companies and organizations to gain better insight into the minds of these millennials.

Students are given a list of 220 companies and asked to rank their top three preferences from a list generated from Fortune's Top 100 Companies to Work For from 2012 and 2013; from DiversityInc's list of top 50 companies to work for in 2012 and 2013; and write-in choices.   The survey respondents also continue to rank medical and health-related fields as their number one choice of major and career, tending to view these careers as socially important and fulfilling.

NSHSS members discuss these trends and their own perspectives as participants on millennial panels each year at corporate and diversity conferences.
