NSHSS members participated this fall in the World Diversity Leadership Summit (WDLS) held in New York City September 6-8.  The World Diversity Leadership Summit is the world’s leading conference focusing on U.S. and global diversity issues.  For the past four years, the Summit organizers have invited NSHSS students to participate in the conference, where they are able to meet representatives from top corporations and government organizations who gather to discuss effective global diversity management and who are eager to meet bright, young scholars.

More than 400 senior global executives from over 150 of the world’s leading corporations attended the three-day conference, which covered challenging and pressing diversity issues that both the corporate and the wider world face.

Sharing her experience is Shelby Smith, of Wellesley College, an NSHSS Student Council member and Claes Nobel Academic Scholarship winner who participated in the Summit:

Staff at New York Stock Exchange"Attending the World Diversity Leadership Summit for the first time was an incredibly enriching and unforgettable experience. After volunteering to meet and greet the Summit attendees, I had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of speakers and seminars. I attended a seminar on the impact of globally diverse supply chains on local communities. I had not considered how globalization has affected the supplier-consumer relationship, but this seminar made me realize how the new global marketplace affects me as an individual consumer. In addition to the seminars and the speakers, I had a wonderful time meeting and getting to know other NSHSS members and seeing old friends from previous NSHSS events. I hope my positive experience at the World Diversity Leadership Summit will encourage you to attend next year."

During the week, NSHSS staff placed a wreath at Ground Zero in remembrance of the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001.
