We both believe that young people can play a positive role in the world, encourage development in one another, and push themselves to remarkable levels of maturity and insight. All that they need is a chance to do so."

Here we are, about to start the rest of our lives. Look at us, we're adults, and we're going to go out there and get into all sorts of wonderful mayhem. But you know what? It won't be easy there will be obstacles. Life is going to throw so much at us. And there are times when the obstacles we have to face may feel too great for us too handle. There may be times when we don't know what to do. We can't go on Google to find the answers. We have to be our own search engines. We have to be the navigators of our own lives, and steer ourselves through the problems, no matter what.

"The Scholar" -- Who will win a free ride to college?

Question: If given the opportunity, would you compete on a reality TV show for a college scholarship? Click the red check mark to answer.

Last month, we invited students to take a little time from busy summer schedules to check out "The Scholar," a new reality TV show in which 10 star students from disadvantaged backgrounds compete for a full college scholarship and to vote on the likely winner. To catch up on the competition and contestants, visit http://abc.go.com/primetime/scholar/index.html. Our members this past month picked contestant Amari to win, followed by a 3-way tie among Alyssa, Melissa, and Scot. "The Scholar" finale aired on ABC on Monday--and the winner is Melissa.  Congratulations to NSHSS member Hasani Wheat, of Kennedy High School in Cleveland, Ohio, who won a free t-shirt in a drawing of those who correctly guessed the winner.
