Support the The No Butts About It Campaign www.nobuttsaboutit.net
Don't you just hate seeing a cigarette polluting your favorite park? Littered cigarettes are not only unsightly, but can cause damage to children and animals that mistakenly ingest the butts; they leach unhealthy chemicals into water supplies; and they are responsible for destructive forest and house fires. In America alone, 176,000,000 pounds of cigarettes are littered annually, and each one can take up to 25 years to biodegrade. We must act to combat this environmental problem!
Most smokers litter out of thoughtless habit. Once they are made aware of their actions, however, they are more than happy to change their behavior. The No Butts About It Campaign (www.nobuttsaboutit.net) has been working closely with US Senator Lieberman, who recently proposed a Senate Bill 2758, which would require cigarette packages to bear a label saying, "Please dispose of cigarette waste properly. Do not litter." This measure would increase smokers' awareness and will end the pollution problem.
Please help us make this important legislation successful! You can write to your senator to express support of the bill, contact your representative to encourage introduction of a companion bill in the House (letters to legislators are available in downloadable form on the No Butts About It website), and sign the electronic petition to show personal support. Spread the word!! Thank you!
Thanks again!
