NSHSS member receives Projects Abroad volunteer program scholarship
We are very pleased to announce that member Kristy Gonyer of Hill City, South Dakota, has been
selected for a program scholarship for Projects Abroad. Kristy attends Hill City High School and will travel
to Peru in this summer to volunteer in a rainforest conservation project. A dedicated leader, she is
president of her school's student council and passionate about conservation and biology, especially
herpetology. She joined the Northwest Youth Corps removing noxious weeds and building trails and
worked for the Mt. Rushmore Forest Service. She hopes to become a conservation wildlife biologist and
herpetologist. She has always been crazy about frogs, and her dream job is to study frogs in South
America, helping save the animals of the rainforest.
There is still time to apply for volunteer programs this summer through Projects Abroad. All NSHSS
members, including college students, receive a $100 discount on programs.
NSHSS partner, Projects Abroad offers opportunities to 'plug in' to
ongoing volunteer projects in seventeen different countries around the world. You join a program in
operation, so the duration of your service is more flexible. Projects Abroad is for everyone seventeen and
over. The 2007 Projects Abroad scholarship application will be available on our website soon (the next
deadline will be December 31, 2006). NSHSS members, including those in college, are eligible for special
discounts and can apply for scholarships. For your member coupon, log in to the member area. Be sure to
print the coupon to submit it with your application.
