Shannon Babb, Claes Nobel Academic Scholarship Recipient, who recently
placed first in the Intel Science Talent Fair, has also won firs place in
Environmental Science at the International Science and Engineering
Fair. Along with that honor, she has been awarded the Seaborg Nobel Trip
Prize and will be traveling to Stockholm, Sweden, in December to attend the
Nobel prize festivities. Congratulations to Shannon, who will attend the
University of Utah in the fall.
All-USA High School Academic First Team - Two NSHSS Members Selected
NSHSS National Scholar Award Recipient John Zhou has been selected by
USA Today as a member of its 20th annual "All-USA High School Academic
First Team." Students are selected for their "intellectual skills beyond the
classroom." John was singled out for his research on conductor-magnetic
polymers and translesion synthesis proteins and for founding his school's
AIDS Walk, which raised $72,000. He attended Detroit Country Day School in
Michigan and will attend Harvard University in the fall.
Daniel Cayce, of Bearden High School in Arkansas, has also been selected
for the "All-USA High School Academic First Team." He has demonstrated
outstanding initiative in founding and following through with community
service projects in rural Arkansas, which resulted in an inspirational award
being named for him at the Clinton School of Public Service. He will attend
Ouachita Baptist University.
Also, congratulations to NSHSS Student Council Member Olutope Omosegbon,
Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis 2009, who has been named a
2006 500 Festival Princess for the
500 Festival
which produces events and programs that celebrate the success of the
Indianapolis 500 Mile Race every Memorial Day.
