NOLS is the premier teacher of outdoor skills and leadership, offering courses in the world's most spectacular wilderness settings. NSHSS members receive an automatic $150 partial scholarship for NOLS summer courses as well as a program application fee waiver in recognition of the academic and leadership contributions they already make at their schools and in their communities. NOLS also offers a program scholarship for NSHSS members. Read about Brennan Eberle’s Alaksan adventure sponsored by NOLS in 2006.

Projects Abroad

Some of your fellow Society members will be going to places like Nepal to teach English and serve the community there. NSHSS partner, Projects Abroad offers opportunities to ‘plug in’ to ongoing projects. Volunteer programs operate in seventeen different countries around the world. You join a program in operation, so the duration of your service is more flexible. Projects Abroad is for everyone seventeen and over. NSHSS member Kristy Gonyer of Hill City, South Dakota, received the 2006 Projects Abroad full program scholarship to volunteer with conservation projects in Peru. The 2007 Projects Abroad scholarship application is now online.

The deadline is December 31, 2006. NSHSS members, including those in college, are eligible for special discounts and can apply for scholarships. For your member coupon, log in to the member area and select the “Documents” tab to print your coupon. Be sure to print this out to submit it with your application.
