Don't forget to have a little FUN in high school

Seven months ago I was standing in line with my friends getting ready to graduate from high school. It was so
weird. I mean high school was done . . . gone . . . finished forever. I had a blast in high school; I met my best
friends and made memories that will last for the rest of my life (as clichéd as it sounds, it's true).
My high school experience was great, but I also worked REALLY hard. I was an IB Diploma candidate and AP
student, the President of three clubs, a member of ASB (Student Government), Varsity Swim Team Co-Captain,
and involved in many other clubs and organizations both in school and in my community. A typical day was
something like this: wake up at 6:00 in the morning, go to school (i.e. sit through many IB/AP classes, run club
meetings, etc.), attend swim practice, go to my IB Theory of Knowledge class, quickly eat and shower at home, do
homework/study, and then go back to school for an ASB project. Many days I was at school from 7 A.M. to 10
P.M.
I said at the beginning of this article that high school was a blast. You are probably asking yourself How could high
school be a blast if she worked so hard? Well, to answer that, I remembered to have fun! I made it a priority to
attend all of the dances, I hung out with my friends on the weekends, and I did some crazy things such as going to
the beach at midnight in the middle of January to swim in the ice cold water!
My message to all current high school students is have a great time in high school! In this competitive, "getting
into college"-oriented world, it's easy to get caught up in school and homework. I agree that you should definitely
concentrate on academics and getting into college. However, don't forget to go to the dances, go to the movies
with your friends, go to the football games, etc. Don't forget to have fun and enjoy the experience called "high
school" because you only live through it once. High school is a time to have fun and be a little crazy sometimes.
In the end, you probably won't regret what you did do; you might regret what you didn't do.
