NSHSS Attends National Scholarship Providers Annual Conference

SHSS attended the annual conference of The National Scholarship Providers Association in Atlanta, October 25-27, 2006; the conference featured an exchange of information on topics critical to scholarship providers, ranging from financial aid information and college affordability to practical strategies for administering scholarships and addressing minority needs. The mission of the National Scholarship Providers Association (NSPA) is to advance the collective impact of scholarships by informing policy and to provide opportunities for professional development and the exchange of best practices among scholarship providers. -MORE-

NSHSS tutors volunteer at Parklane Elementary

On October 21st nearly forty NSHSS members from the metro Atlanta area gathered at Parklane Elementary School in East Point, Georgia, to volunteer their time and tutor underprivileged elementary school students. NSHSS worked with Hands on Atlanta, a non-profit organization that matches individuals and corporations with appropriate service projects throughout the city, to participate in the Discovery tutoring program. Parklane Elementary Discovery is a Saturday morning tutoring program that offers one-on-one and small group enrichment activities for at-risk children. NSHSS members led activities in subjects ranging from mathematics to English grammar and composition, as well as practice with public speaking. -MORE-
