Do you know of a young hero? Nominate a student (or have someone nominate you) for the Claes Nobel Hero Award.
We often hear from family, friends, or the press about students who rise to heroic action in an emergency. Last year, we established the first Claes Nobel Hero Award, to honor such students. At Scholar’s Day in the Washington, D.C., this special "Hero" award was presented to Holden Hylander of San Antonio, Texas, whose father told the group the incredible story of how his son saved his life in a near-tragic boating accident through his quick wit and cool head. Holden managed to swim to his father and lift him up, re-establish his breathing, and assemble a make-shift emergency air horn to call for help. He was also honored by the Red Cross and by President Bush.
We are eager to honor our members who have demonstrated “heroic” behavior. We are now accepting nominations for the Claes Nobel Hero Award in order to recognize an NSHSS member who has demonstrated extreme courage, initiative, and/or leadership in the face of a crisis or emergency.
If you know of such a student (or if you are such a student), please be sure to submit an application so that he or she or you can be recognized — Claes Nobel Hero Award application
