NSHSS welcomes international interns from Japan and Vietnam

Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, senior member of the family which established the Nobel Prizes, believes in the power of the youth to change the world. Mr. Nobel travels extensively, inspiring the youth to become ambassadors for peace in the United States and abroad. Mr. Nobel is passionate about congratulating and inviting our international scholars into our diverse family of aspiring leaders, and sends a special "Welcome" to our friends overseas!

Since our founding in 2002, NSHSS has expanded to encompass members in sixty-eight countries worldwide. Many international students are finding great value in membership with the Society. Student Council Representative Anya Rasulova, from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, remarks:

"Membership in NSHSS has given much to me. First of all, it is a great network of bright students like you! I was a Claes Nobel Academic Scholarship recipient in 2004, and I would like to thank NSHSS for that with all my heart! It made my dream of attending Brown University possible."

NSHSS is fortunate to have on hand two interns this spring acting as international liaisons—Annie Ueyama and Hung Pham, who are offering us valuable insights into other cultures and ways to enhance the NSHSS membership experience for our international students.

Annie Ueyama and Hung Pham at the NSHSS national headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia

Annie is a native of Japan and came to the U.S. with her family when she was seven years old.  She grew up in New York and returned to Japan to study urban development at Kwansei Gakuin University.  After working as a system's engineer for three years, her love for sports and working with young athletes led her to study sports management in the master's program at the University of Queensland in Australia.  While there she was involved in the operation of numerous sports events in Australia and the U.S.  Annie says, "The experience of working at NSHSS in Atlanta has definitely opened up a new perspective in my life, and I am very excited to be part of the journey to offer more membership opportunities to students globally."

Hung was born in Vietnam and came to the U.S. with his family when he was only three and a half years old. He grew up in a small town in Wisconsin and studied architecture at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Upon completing his degree and while working as an architect for several innovative design firms across the country, he discovered his passion for help others. Over the last eight years, Hung as volunteered with the U.S. Peace Corps in Honduras and worked for a non-profit humanitarian NGO in Vietnam. Hung says, "The greatest joy for an immigrant, is to proudly represent one's country of origin and share its beauties... the second, is to return and give back."
