Texas Member Kelly Dillard Promotes Helmet Safety as Miss Teen Ft. Worth

NSHSS member Kelly Dillard of McKinney North High School in McKinney, Texas, recently won the Miss Ft. Worth Outstanding Teen of 2008 crown and will compete in the Teen Texas Pageant in July 2008. The winner of this competition will move on the Miss America Outstanding Teen competition. Kelly competed in several areas including Scholastic Achievement, Interview, Talent (piano), Evening Wear, and Athletic Wear. With this local title Kelly will travel throughout Texas speaking at schools, clubs, and organizations on her chosen platform of “Head Smart,”promoting helmet safety. Helmet safety is very important to Kelly, who nearly lost her brother in a motorcycle accident in 2004. He is alive and well today because he was wearing his helmet. Kelly recently went to the Texas Capitol in Austin to present a helmet safety law to state representative Jim Pitts.
