Angela Duckworth Selected for 2007 Wendy's High School Heisman Award
On December 7, Angela Duckworth, of Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, was selected from a field of 32,000 applicants, as the 2007 national winner of the prestigious Wendy's High School Heisman Award. Each year one female and one male student are selected for this prestigious award, which honors outstanding high school seniors who excel in academics, athletics, and community service. The awards ceremony was televised on Sunday, December 9, on ESPN. Angela had the opportunity to see her name and picture up in lights on the Nokia Theater marquee in Times Square in New York City and was followed and filmed by the ESPN film crew for a day at her school.

As captain of her school’s swimming and diving teams, Angela is an All-American record-setting swimmer, ranked in the top three percent of her class academically, and is a dedicated volunteer for multiple charitable organizations, including serving as team captain for the Climb to Conquer Cancer, the Walk of Hope, and the Race for the Cure. She also volunteers at an assisted living home in Scottsdale.
Along with Trevor Van Ackeren, of Liberty High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Angela was chosen from an exceptional group of national finalists, made up of six male and six female students from six regions of the United States, representing a wide range of sports and extracurricular interests.
Congratulations to Angela on her selection for this honor, which recognizes not only excellence in athletics, but leadership, character, and academic achievements as well.
