Kyla Brick Receives Multiple Awards; Recognized for Animal Conservation

NSHSS Member Kyla Brick, of New Hope, Pennsylvania, a junior at New Hope-Solebury High School, is now the youngest person to certify for the Quality Deer Management Association's (QDMA) REACH Program in Deer Conservation. Brian Murphy, Executive Director, offered a scholarship to Kyla, based upon her work at the Pennsylvania Institute for Conservation Education's (P.I.C.E.) Field Camp this summer. QMDA's Certification Program is the first of its kind to be offered in the northern United States. This extraordinary opportunity is a reflection of Kyla's demonstrated commitment to the study of wildlife biology and afforded her a broader perspective of large animal conservation. This is the second scholarship Kyla has been offered in the last six months.

She also received a scholarship for the Pennsylvania Wildlife Leadership Adventure Field Camp (P.I.C.E.), and won a Peer Leadership Award for her unit the Alpha Does, who won First Place (overall) for both Nature Photography (featuring Kyla's photographs) and PowerPoint presentation. During Pennsylvania Achievement Days at Penn State University in July, Kyla was given the First Merit Award (Blue Ribbon) for Veterinary Sciences. She was awarded another blue ribbon at the Bucks County Grange Fair in August: the Blue Merit Award and Achievement Certificate, Veterinary Sciences (the latter presentation fulfilled the last requirement for a Veterinary Sciences Clinics course taken spring, 2007). A Varsity volleyball player and gifted student, Kyla recently appeared in a Nickelodeon Television show promoting healthy lifestyles for teenagers.
