Jeremy Martin featured in Teen Spotlight

Jeremy Martin, of Spring Lake, North Carolina, was recently selected to be featured in the "Student Spotlight – Teen Intro" in the "Fayetteville Observer." A senior at Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina, he was nominated for this honor by his high school principal Mrs. Cindy McCormick.

Jeremy is an accomplished and motivated scholar. He serves as his Senior Class Vice President and Key Club Secretary, as well as President of the American Red Cross Youth Corps for the Fayetteville area. He also finds time to participate in his church youth group, hold a part-time job at Pizza Hut as a Restaurant Customer Service Representative, and has completed an internship with the District Attorney's Office in the Cumberland County Courthouse.

When asked in his Spotlight feature what he has learned from his volunteer activities, he explains:

"It's the experience of being able to say that you made a difference in the community and being able to say that other people look to you as a leadership example. I got involved with The Red Cross to branch out to be able to help more people. I joined in February of 2007 and have been a dedicated member ever since. From volunteering with the Red Cross, I have learned that there are a lot of people who are really in need, and they appreciate the time that you give. I consider my biggest accomplishment to be reaching out to others because a lot of people don't do that nowadays. My biggest concern for the future is that people will not be aware of what's going on in the world. When you are uninformed about what's going on in the world, you don't know how to contribute.

"My favorite piece of wisdom is a quote from Mark Twain: A person that does not read good books has no advantage over the person who cannot read them."

NSHSS is pleased to highlight Jeremy's accomplishment, and we expect to hear great things from him in the future.
