We are very pleased to welcome a new member to our NSHSS Board of Advisors-- Larry Griffith, Vice President, Gates Millennium Scholars program-United Negro College Fund. He brings a wealth of educational experience, including guidance counseling and college admissions. He is joining a panel of individuals who stand out as remarkable role models in their respective fields. Our board members have achieved success in a variety of areas on the national and international stage, from education to entertainment, from politics to sports. They have joined our board in order to connect with and to share their passions and interests with a new generation of outstanding young leaders. The Society will benefit from the advice and inspiration as both the board and our members scale new heights in the future.
Larry A. Griffith began his career in secondary and post-secondary education as an undergraduate Admission Officer at The College of William & Mary in Virginia. In 1989, he joined the counseling department at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C. as Director of College Counseling. Larry left Gonzaga in 1995 to serve as the Associate Director of Admission and Director of Multicultural Recruitment at Brown University. At the start of 1998, Larry returned to public education as Director of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Delaware, where he completed his tenure in 2003 as Assistant Dean in the College of Arts and Science. Larry next went to the College Board where, until 2007, he served in the roles of Executive Director for National Higher Education Relationship Development and Assistant Vice-President for the Middle States Regional Office. Larry currently serves as a Vice President at the United Negro College Fund where he is responsible for the Gates Millennium Scholars Program.
Griffith has held several leadership positions in his professional associations, including president of the Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admissions Counseling, and a number of roles with the National Association for College Admissions Counseling. He is active in his community through his involvement and membership in civic organizations like the Urban League.
In addition to his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary, he holds a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Delaware.
