International Highlight

Association of International Education (EAIE) Conference in Trondheim, Norway

In order to better serve our members globally and connect with major international universities, NSHSS gathered with over 2,200 representatives from top universities around the world at the 19th annual European Association of International Education (EAIE) conference in Trondheim, Norway. This conference brought together administrators from around the world to discuss international education and best practices for globalizing university campuses. NSHSS representatives attended and met with over 100 international institutions to share with them about our outstanding members and offer opportunities for them to showcase their institution to our students. Mr. Nobel believes in encouraging the world's youth to become global citizens, and this includes connecting students with opportunities to learn at the world's premier institutions for bachelor, masters, and summer study abroad programs.

Council for Industry and Higher Education Conference in London, England

On October 4th and 5th, NSHSS University Relations Coordinator Veronica Squires attended the Council for Industry and Higher Education (CIHE) conference in London and Manchester. The two-day conference brought together over 200 delegates from premier institutions in the United Kingdom. These institutions are committed to sending UK students abroad and welcoming international students to their home campuses. Mrs. Squires contributed as a presenting speaker, sharing the results from the NSHSS Study Abroad Survey and encouraging the delegates to connect with our student members, of which 80% express interest in studying abroad! NSHSS looks forward to participating further with the CIHE and establishing strong relationships with universities in the UK.

The winner of the NSHSS Study Abroad Survey drawing is member Larry McKay of Edmond, Oklahoma, who received an iPod. Congratulations, Larry!

Note to international members from Student Council Representative Nara Lee, Harvard freshman from Osaka, Japan

Although I had the help of my counselors and upperclassmen friends, applying to colleges and choosing which courses to take in high school always seemed like a big mystery to me. There just seemed to be no rhyme or rhythm to the entire process. As an international student, I often got the feeling that there was a different set of rules and requirements that had to be followed during the application process, especially in regards to applying for financial aid. Now that I have completed high school and the whole college application process, I wish to serve on the NSHSS student council so that I can help other students-- particularly internationals--who are currently in the same position that I was in less than six months ago. I am a very social person, and I like to believe that I am also someone easy to approach; I am eager to offer my two cents to any high school students that need it. Please email Nara at studentcouncil@nshss.org with relevant questions.
