NSHSS Announces Partnership with
National Vocabulary Championship

NSHSS member Robert Marsland walks away with a $40,000 scholarship as the 2006 National Vocabulary Champion

NSHSS is pleased to announce a new partnership with the National Vocabulary Championship.   The National Vocabulary Championship (NVC) is an initiative that aims to inspire students to expand their vocabularies and narrow the achievement gap. The program offers free educational resources, creates spirited competition through testing and game play, and awards more than $100,000 annually in college tuition and other prizes. The goal of the NVC is to give every student the opportunity to build a better vocabulary and earn money for college.

Log on to www.WinWithWords.com for details on the 2007-2008 competition, free Princeton Review study materials, Game Show Network games, and more.

Throughout the month of November students can take the National Qualifying Exam online for free. The competition is open to all eligible students in grades 9-12 between the ages of 13-19. Please visit the website for Official Rules and additional eligibility requirements.

NSHSS Member Robert Marsland III, of Madison, Wisconsin, now a Princeton freshman, won the 2006 National Championship and received a $40,000 college scholarship. Robert says, “Words aren’t just useful—they are also beautiful in themselves. You can especially see this in good poetry, where the sounds of the words become almost like music. Learning more words can open a whole new world of wonder, strangeness and beauty.”

It might also open up some doors to college if you try your hand at the National Vocabulary Championship.

NVC is sponsoring this month’s crossword puzzle of SAT vocabulary words.  The  first 10 winners of the puzzle competition will receive NVC long-sleeved t-shirts.
