March this year has definitely come in like a lion, and the time has come to announce the top names for our lion--the NSHSS mascot, originally christened “Leopold.” We announced a contest on Facebook to give “Leo” a new name. The winner not onlywill have the honor of naming the Lion, but will also receive an iPod Nano! The winning name will be chosen from the following member suggestions (some of whom opted for our mascot to keep his original name). This contest will continue to run on Facebook; log on to our page and help choose the name you like the best:
- Roary
- Livingston
- Leo
- Leopold
- Dynamite
Mr. Nobel has graciously declined, but one member suggested naming the mascot “Claes” after our NSHSS Founder: “The NSHSS lion's new name should be Claes. After all Mr. Nobel helped found NSHSS to continue the Nobel family's legacy of recognizing and rewarding contributions to world betterment. He believes the world leaders of tomorrow will emerge from today's youth, and NSHSS can be a powerful tool for advocacy and support of these young leaders. As the chair of the advisory board Mr. Nobel is personally involved in many of the Society's initiatives. He attends member events, is involved with all scholarships, and provides input on the strategic direction of the organization. He deserves to have a lion named after him.”
