Richard Goodman (center) honored at the American Chemical Society Awards
NSHSS congratulates Richard Goodman, of Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, New York, who has received the distinguished James Bryant Conant Award from the American Chemical Society at their 235th Annual Meeting held on April 8th in New Orleans, Louisiana. This award is given to one high school chemistry teacher each year, sponsored by Thermo Corp. It is a national award given to the "best" high school chemistry educator in the United States.
Inscribed on the award certificate is the following:
For his extraordinary contribution to chemistry education. He inspires his students to go on to study chemistry in college and become chemists and chemistry teachers.
Mr Goodman was selected in 2007 as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction. He resides in North Salem, New York. His wife, Laurie, and children, Justin, 20, Amber, 12, and Mason, 8, accompanied him to the awards ceremony in New Orleans and are, needless too say, very proud. Justin was selected as a member of the National Society of High School Scholars Honors Program while a student at North Salem High School in New York in 2006.
