The NSHSS Scholar’s Day audience on May 30 in the U.S. Senate Dirksen Building was fortunate indeed to enjoy a stunning violin performance by musical prodigy Jourdan Urbach, who was also recognized during the event for receiving the Robert Sheppard Leadership Award. The next week, he was off to Los Angeles, where he was honored at a red-carpet event in Los Angeles at the 2008 Associated Television International Awards Show.

Jourdan, of Roslyn, New York, is a 16-year-old concert violinist from Juilliard and founder of the national musical charity “Children Helping Children.” He was a featured performer at the celebrity Red Carpet 2008 Hero Awards produced by Associated Television International in Los Angeles on June 6, 2008, at the Universal Hilton Ballroom in Universal City. This two-hour prime-time television event will benefit Feed the Children. Urbach was also honored by ATI as the recipient of their Young Hero Award and was featured in a short documentary about his national musical and philanthropic work, produced by ATI. The entire event will be broadcast on MYNETWORKTV on July 4th at 8:00 PM. Urbach performed "La Ronde des Lutins" (Dance of the Goblins) by Antonio Bazzini.

One of a number of celebrity performers, Urbach joined Ace Young and Bo Bice from American Idol; Grammy Award winners BJ Thomas and Paul Williams; James Ingram; and Rick Springfield and his band. Also appearing were astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Roger, Louis Gosset, Jr., James Franco, Lou Ferrigno, Bryant Gumbel, Joan Lunden, Blair Underwood, Kathy Ireland, and host by Dean Cain.

The evening consisted of a Red Carpet walk for photos and media interviews, a celebrity cocktail party, a black tie dinner for 1,000 guests, and the taping of the Awards Show.

Urbach’s concert schedule for 2008/2009 includes his Carnegie Hall appearance on November 22, 2008, performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto as soloist with the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony to benefit the “National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Promise 2010 Research Initiative,” and a Lincoln Center concert at Alice Tully Hall on March 27, 2009, performing solo concert repertoire in the first half, and being joined by Mark Wood and The Trans Siberian Orchestra for an “electrifying” second half. This concert will benefit the Children’s Pediatric Cancer Center: Hope and Heroes at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.
