MEET the NSHSS Student Council

Claes Nobel presents scholarship to Franz Sauer at Scholar's Day in Washington, D.C.
NSHSS Student Council members are college students who offer advice to high school students and are invited to participate in members events. Serving on the Council can provide a great leadership opportunity. NSHSS members who are graduating from high school in 2009 will be eligible to apply for the Student Council next year.
Note from Caltech Council Member Franz Sauer
Claes Nobel Academic Scholarship Recipient
For all those considering coming to Caltech: It’s only been about 3 weeks since classes started here, but so far it’s been a lot of fun at Caltech. The rumors are in fact true; there is a great deal of hard work to do for each class, so Caltech truly does stand up to its reputation. But with the hard work comes a great community of people just like you. I have made a ton of new friends (and kept two of my best since high school; they also are going to Caltech). As a group we try to help each other through our classes because hard work can be much more fun when working in a group. The upperclassmen also can come quite in handy. We also have enough free time to hang out with one another, play video games, or pull off a witty prank :-) The atmosphere is great because everyone is so trusting. All exams and homework are take home, and we are under an honor code to take the work seriously. I am also on the Fencing team and will soon be going to competitions against other colleges (I'm really excited!) Overall, I've had an amazing experience so far and look forward to the next four years.

College Fairs
The National Society of High School Scholars is pleased to continue its partnership with The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) National College Fairs Program. NACAC, a dynamic organization of counseling and enrollment professionals, helps students realize their full educational potential, with particular emphasis on the transition to postsecondary education. To this aim, NACAC holds approximately 50 National College Fairs and 18 Performing and Visual Arts Fairs across the United States. These fairs are for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors to learn about a wide range of institutions and gain insight regarding the college admissions and the financial aid process. Greg Ferguson, Director of National College Fairs, Programs, and Services states, “For many parents and students it is a one-stop shopping experience, an opportunity for them to consider as many institutions as they would possibly like to attend without leaving their geographic area. It saves both time and money!”
This fall there have been 18 NACAC fairs scheduled across the United States and there will be 30 more held in the spring of 2009 . These fairs are an excellent resource for NSHSS members and their parents to begin the college search and meet personally with admissions professionals. For additional information about the fairs and how to attend, please visit “Information for Students, Parents, and Counselors” on the NACAC website. Here you will find tips for attending the college fairs and how to make the most of the experience, as well as FAQ’s. You can also search on this page to see which colleges and universities will be exhibiting at the fairs and a complete fair schedule.
Fall 2009 College Fair Schedule
NSHSS and NACAC welcome you and your family to take advantage of this great opportunity, and we hope to meet you at an upcoming College Fair!
