NSHSS is continually expanding its scholarship opportunities for members to help fulfill its mission of recognizing academic excellence and encouraging members to apply their unique talents, vision, and potential for the betterment of themselves and the world. Read Winning 2009 NSHSS Academic Paper Awards Online
The academic paper award committee has selected twenty-five papers for awards of $250 each for 2009. The Society congratulates the winners and wishes to acknowledge the effort and expertise that all of the submissions demonstrated. Winning papers are selected based on how well the student addresses a particular assignment, while presenting the material in a clear and thoughtful way in the student's own voice. The application for Academic Paper Awards Competition for 2010 is now available. The annual deadline is May 1.

DCU Think Science Challenge
Academic competition for NSHSS members to showcase their ideas, research, and creative solutions for the rapid detection and analysis of contemporary diseases. This global competition is open to all NSHSS members. There will be two main prizes, one for current high school students who will be aged 18 by June 1st, 2010 - this winner will be brought to Dublin, Ireland, on an 'expenses-paid' trip to interact with scientists at Dublin City University working in related areas - and a cash prize for students under 18 years of age at that date. There will be additional cash prizes for some of the best ideas presented.

Claes Nobel Academic Scholarships and National Scholar Awards
A single application is used for both scholarships. To complete the online application, log in to the member area of the website and select the "scholarship" tab once you are logged in. The application is the first step in the process. This preliminary application is tied to your member record, so make sure that your member profile in the member area is accurate, particularly, your contact information, graduation date, and grade point average. Semifinalists will be selected from the applications submitted after the deadline and notified by mail. Those selected will be requested to submit additional material, including transcript, personal statement, and educator recommendation. The scholarship committee will award both Claes Nobel Academic Scholarships of $5,000 and National Scholar Awards of $1,000 from the pool of semifinalists. Winners are selected based on the strength of their academic record, demonstrated leadership, service activities, personal statement, and educator recommendation.
