Harvard Freshman Inspires Youth through her Debut Novel

NSHSS member Noni Carter, Harvard freshman from Fairburn, Georgia, has published her first novel, Good Fortune, an inspiring story of an African-American slave woman and her harrowing journey to freedom set in the early 19th century. Newly published by Simon & Schuster, the book has been described as Roots for 21st century youth.

The young author began her book at age twelve as a short story that grew into a compelling novel over the next three years. Then when her book was accepted for publication in 2008, the Sandy Creek High School student was faced with the challenging task of editing and meeting deadlines while at the same time studying classical piano, taking dual-enrollment college classes, volunteering in her community, and making room for tennis. — MORE
