Scholarship Opportunities

NSHSS works to continuously provide scholarship opportunities to our members to defray the costs associated with college and life-changing educational programs. A variety of scholarships are available for high school students to support college tuition at the accredited college or university of the member’s choosing, study abroad programs and special leadership and skills development programs through NSHSS partners.

College members also have access to scholarships to further support their collegiate studies, as well as opportunities to attend exclusive conferences such as Clinton Global Initiative University and the annual Nobel Prize week festivities in Stockholm, Sweden.

NSHSS is a long-time member and supporter of the National Scholarship Providers Association (NSPA), a nonprofit, membership association that advances the collective impact of scholarship providers and the scholarships they award. NSPA was established in 1999 by Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, Fastweb.com, Hispanic Scholarship Fund and Scholarship America to facilitate the creation of scholarship best practices, encourage professional development and to establish cooperative relationships among scholarship providers.

AFS Project: Change

Win a full scholarship to go abroad and make an impact!

Eligibility Requirements:
• High school NSHSS members
• Must be currently enrolled in a U.S. school (or be home-schooled in the U.S.) in grades 8-12. U.S. high school students who are currently studying abroad are eligible.
• Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.

Scholarship Award: Full scholarships to volunteer abroad

Are you passionate about global issues and seeing the world? Do you want to create lasting change? Submit your idea for a volunteer project abroad with the AFS Project: Change contest, and you could have the opportunity to put your vision into action this summer.

What change would you make in the world?

With AFS Project: Change, you could win a full scholarship to go abroad and make an impact.
Today’s high school students are more than just dreamers – you have visions for how to make the world a better, safer, more peaceful and more just place, and you’re ready to put those visions into action.

That’s why we’re so excited to let you know about AFS Project: Change, a scholarship contest for NSHSS high school members. Submit an idea for a volunteer project that addresses a major global issue in one of ten countries. If you’re the grand prize winner, you’ll receive a full scholarship to make your idea a reality on a two-week international trip – designed by you – this summer. Nine additional lucky winners will also receive full scholarships to participate.

AFS-USA (formerly the American Field Service), a nonprofit organization, is a leader in intercultural learning and exchange programs. AFS Project: Change is now in its third year of awarding scholarships to deserving students with big ideas. Last year’s winner, an 8th grader named Sai, submitted his idea via a short video. As the grand prize winner, he then led a group of fellow American students on a project to teach nutrition education to underserved communities in New Delhi, India.

Together with their Indian peers, the group developed a school curriculum that delved into issues regarding both hunger and obesity. Staying with host families, traveling to the Taj Mahal, and learning Indian cultural activities like yoga and cooking all made the experience truly unforgettable. Watch a short video of their life-changing journey at http://www.afsusa.org/project-change/?play&utm_

The deadline for submission is January 17, 2017. All it takes is an idea. What’s yours?

“It’s one thing to learn about a place like India at school in the US, but it’s another thing to be here and be able to see firsthand how people live.”

“If you have an idea, just write about it! What may even seem silly to you could make an impact on somebody else in the world. You could actually change someone’s life.”
