I have had numerous fulfilling experiences throughout my high school career. However, attending the Texas Association of Student Councils state convention ranks highest because it dramatically altered my perspective on life at school, church, and home. At this convention, I gained a broader perspective on what it means to be a leader, how to put leadership plans into action, and what I personally can do to change my school. Specifically regarding leadership, I grew to appreciate the qualities in myself, such as enthusiasm, extroversion, and commitment because I saw through my peers how valuable these tools can be in leading others to achieve new heights. At our school, males have a tendency to be reserved and non-committal. As a result, I had been tempering my leadership capabilities in order to be like them. I now realize how damaging that was to both myself and to programs at school. New programs need leaders with my skills to succeed.
By attending this convention, I was introduced to hundreds of fundraisers, activities, and organizational improvements many of which can be implemented at my school. I have already started putting a few ideas into action. Some in particular are adding team building activities, outreach programs between grades, and point sheets to Student Council to make us a more productive and organized committee. Because of this experience, I have helped contribute to changes in my school, community, and city, and I learned the core values of true leadership.
College seems like it will be the most intellectually stimulating, diverse, and enjoyable experience of my entire life. I would like to attend Baylor University in Waco, Texas for my college career. I have already visited the campus and I cannot contain my excitement about attending this college. While attending Baylor, I hope to have a double major in Forensic Science and Pre-Medicine. I know this will be a strenuous schedule, but I have already prepared myself by continuously making "A" averages in all of my classes, and pushing my intellectual a ability by taking more than 18 Pre-AP and AP level courses. I hope to continue my school activities, clubs, and community service at the collegiate level. After college, I would like to open my own private forensics practice in a high crime community in hopes of solving those crimes, and providing closure for the affected families, businesses, and communities. I would also love to find my significant other and provide for a loving and caring family until I am no longer able to do so.
My contribution to the world will be in the form of compassion, leadership, teaching, and relationships. I think that my activeness in school organizations, national organizations, and seven years in Student Council will help my dreams of serving on a city council or as a state representative. I also hope that my dedication and education in forensic science will lead to a development or innovation into solving crimes.
