Marilyn is a seasoned Human Resources (HR) professional with expertise in federal HR, where she has been instrumental in developing, implementing, and managing recruitment and outreach programs. She has also spearheaded special initiatives and providing customized HR training on cultural awareness and hiring options to customers.
Marilyn is a leader and champion who’s committed to advancing equality, diversity, inclusion, and engagement. Marilyn provides technical guidance, data-driven analysis, and strategic leadership to recruit and onboard a prepared, diverse, and sustainable workforce.
Marilyn holds a Master of Public Administration and in Public Human Resources Management.

Nina P. Smith joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in June 2008 serving in the Human Resources Office as a HR Specialist, under the Federal Career Internship Program (FCIP). In her current position as Human Capital Advisor she supports CDC through the Strategic Programs Office in recruitment and workforce planning activities. Ms. Smith has also served as a recruiter in the Division of Scientific Education and Professional Development implementing cross cutting recruitment strategies to foster CDC’s mission of improving health outcomes through a competent, sustainable, and empowered public health workforce.
Ms. Smith served most of her time as the Special Emphasis Coordinator, working alongside the Strategic Programs Office and the CDC Office of Equal Employment Opportunity in outlining processes to reach underrepresented groups, with a goal to meet presidential hiring initiatives and discover barriers to employment. Ms. Smith educates the federal community and potential employees on the federal hiring authorities as it relates to underrepresented groups, such as students and recent graduates; veterans; persons with disabilities; historically black colleges and universities; and Hispanics within the Government. Ms. Smith served as the CDC technical advisor on the Pathways Program — a federal hiring authority designed to provide students and recent graduates with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore federal careers while building the federal workforce.
Additionally, Ms. Smith served as CDC’s selective placement program coordinator for persons with disabilities. Ms. Smith has 17 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector, primarily with persons with disabilities to secure employment and equal standards of living. Ms. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Master of Business Administration.
