The purpose of NSHSS is to honor the hard work and academic achievements of talented young scholars around the world, to build a network of peers, and to provide resources and opportunities to help these high-achieving students excel in university and beyond. Student scholars benefit from an international network of high-achieving peers, access to USD $2 million in scholarships, and leadership development, member-only events, and access to universities and educational opportunities around the world.

NSHSS recognizes young scholars who have demonstrated excellence through their academic achievements based on objective criteria, including grades and test scores. Students must meet any one of the following criteria to be considered for membership.
Cumulative GPA – 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
1280 SAT score or higher
1150 PSAT score or higher
AP Exam – Score 4 or higher on any exam
Top 10% rank in class
88 or above on a 100-point scale
IB Exam - 40 total points or higher
IGCSE – Grade A or higher on any exam
26 ACT score or higher
