The National Society of High School Scholars recently held a member event at Rice University on June 20, 2013. During this event, more than 400 students, parents, and educators participated in recognition presentations and met representatives from the CIA, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Fisk University, Howard University, Louisiana State University, Rice University, Texas A &M University of Houston, University of Queensland, University of Texas at Arlington and The U.S. State Department.
During the program, Mr. Nobel presented 7 Educators of Distinction awards at the event. NSHSS Educators of Distinction are teachers that are nominated by NSHSS members; these teachers have made a significant impact on students’ lives, and NSHSS was proud to honor them at the member event. Mr. Nobel then spoke to the audience about Learning, Leading and Changing the World empower the NSHSS members in attendance to make an impact within their communities.
Ton La Jr, NSHSS Student Council member shared the importance of applying for scholarships early. He also suggested that staying at a local institution as opposed to going to college in another state can be cost effective. The program ended with a raffle by NSHSS Partner Abercrombie & Fitch followed, in which Hollister & Co. gift cards were given away to event attendees.
