Carter Presidential Center Holiday Event 2015
Join Mr. Nobel and the NSHSS team for our annual holiday event at the Carter Center. This festive member event includes participation in a student opportunities workshop with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), a chance to meet Mr. Nobel, the opportunity to ask your college bound questions to highly ranked university officials, and an intimate college fair to visit with some of your top choice schools.

Highlights from our San Diego NSHSS Member Event
On Saturday, October 3, NSHSS hosted its San Diego NSHSS member event on the beautiful UCSD campus. Over 300 members attendees started the day with a special workshop sponsored by NSHSS partner the Central Intelligence Agency, providing information about internships, scholarships, and career opportunities with the agency.

During the member recognition program, the audience was welcomed by Will Houghteling, the Managing Director, North America of The Minerva Schools at KGI, and Melissa Martinez, Diplomat-in-Residence for the U.S. Department of State. NSHSS Scholarship Director Dr. Susan Thurman provided an informative presentation full of tips for scholarship applications. Dr. Thurman also took a moment to recognize National Scholar Award winner Basma Abdellaoui National Scholar Award from La Jolla, CA who attends the University of California San Diego.

NSHSS Vice President Beth Pann recognized Educators of Distinction Adriana Wiedermann from South Pasadena High School and Jennifer Maletz, Walnut High School. Then attendees were treated with a lovely speech from Claes Nobel Top Educator of the Year John Carnesecca from Great Oak High School.

Attendees also enjoyed a video by Mr. Nobel who motivated and challenged each scholar in attendance to seek excellence in character, academics, and efforts for environmental sustainability. Mr. Nobel is confident that the scholars who gathered at our San Diego event are the next generation of leaders who will make wise decisions to promote education, inclusion, and environmentalism throughout the world.

The day ended with the NSHSS College Fair, where members were able to receive invaluable information from the following educational institutions and organizations: AFS

Highlights from our Rice University NSHSS Member Event in Houston
On Saturday, October 10, over 300 members attended a similar NSHSS member event hosted by Rice University in Houston. After the CIA workshop, the audience was welcomed by Michael Lai, Student Outreach Lead at The Minerva Schools at KGI, and John C. Roberts, Diplomat-in-Residence for the U.S. Department of State.

At the beginning of the member recognition ceremony, NSHSS Vice President Beth Pann honored scholarship recipients Navira Alifa, from Houston, TX, winner of the Abercrombie & Fitch Diversity Champion Scholarship, and Mimi Phan, from Sugar Land, TX, winner of the Abercrombie & Fitch Anti-Bullying Scholar Award. NSHSS Director of Educator Outreach Myrna Lubin recognized the following Educators of Distinction: Judith Boyer from Burbank High School, Marilyn Jones from Mayde Creek High School, Elisabeth Musso from Iroquois High School, Keisha Smith from Thurgood Marshall High Shool, Jabari Stoglin from John A. Dubiski Career High Schoolm and Richard Raymond from Richland High School.

The day ended with the NSHSS College Fair, where members were able to receive invaluable information from the following educational institutions and organizations: AFS
