Texas Junior Sharon Li Helps Children Worldwide through We Care Act

Sharon Li, a junior at Glenda Dawson High School in Pearland, Texas, is a 2013 Robert Sheppard Leadership Award recipient who is determined to continue helping more children around the globe. She is the co-founder and president of the 501(c)3 non profit organization We Care Act, dedicated to spreading community service and helping children recover from natural disasters and has already impacted more than 23,000 youth in over 17 countries.

This summer Sharon traveled to North Carolina, working with a group of high school and middle school students to organize a service club. She is currently advising other high school groups on service clubs and helping them earn the President’s Volunteer Service award. 

Additionally, she journeyed to Sichuan, China this summer, helping victims of the mudslide disaster in Dujiangyan, Sichuan, and those of the recent earthquake (April 2013) in Ya'an Sichuan.  Those areas were heavily hit by the deadly earthquake in 2008 as well.  She brought books to schools in Dujiangyan and Ya'an and conducted English workshops in Sichuan and Hunan.  

Sharon also loves writing, and her poetry and short stories have won numerous awards including the Scholastic Writing competition's gold and silver keys. She is very passionate about dance and has placed 2nd place nationally and 1st place regionally in her division.
