Win a full scholarship to go abroad and make an impact

What change would you make in the world?

With AFS Project: Change, you could win a full scholarship to go abroad and make an impact.

Today’s high school students are more than just dreamers – you have visions for how to make the world a better, safer, more peaceful and more just place, and you’re ready to put those visions into action.

That’s why we’re so excited to let you know about AFS Project: Change, a scholarship contest for 8-12th graders. Submit an idea for a volunteer project that addresses a major global issue in one of ten countries. If you’re the grand prize winner, you’ll receive a full scholarship to make your idea a reality on a two-week international trip  – designed by you – this summer. Nine additional lucky winners will also receive full scholarships to participate.AFS_Project Change _1

AFS Project: Change is now in its third year of awarding scholarships to deserving students with big ideas. Last year’s winner, an 8th grader named Sai, submitted his idea via a short video. As the grand prize winner, he then led a group of fellow American students on a project to teach nutrition education to underserved communities in New Delhi, India.

Together with their Indian peers, the group developed a school curriculum that delved into issues regarding both hunger and obesity. Staying with host families, traveling to the Taj Mahal, and learning Indian cultural activities like yoga and cooking all made the experience truly unforgettable. Watch a short video of their life-changing journey.

The deadline for submissions is January 17, 2017. All it takes is an idea. What’s yours?

“It’s one thing to learn about a place like India at school in the US, but it’s another thing to be here and be able to see firsthand how people live.”

“If you have an idea, just write about it! What may even seem silly to you could make an impact on somebody else in the world. You could actually change someone’s life.”
