The National Society of High School Scholars is pleased to continue its partnership with Friendship Ambassadors Foundation, which will provide NSHSS members with special discounts for both conference-only and event package options to attend the 2016 Winter Youth Assembly at the United Nations on February 17-18, 2016, in New York City. Members who choose to apply with an event package are eligible to win a $1,000-2,000 scholarship at the end of the conference.

The Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations is a unique platform created by Friendship Ambassadors Foundation to foster dialogue and generate partnerships between exceptional youth, UN high officials and staff, private sector, and civil society. Its mission is to empower youth to become active participants in the successful implementation of the newly adopted development agenda for 2030–the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals.

With more than 500 young delegates from around the world attending the event twice a year, the Youth Assembly at the United Nations is the oldest and largest youth gathering on the UN’s annual calendar since 2002. Youth delegates from all over the world develop a deeper understanding of the various practices and perspectives in international development through meaningful exchanges with key players from various sectors.

As the world embarks on a new set of development goals for the next fifteen years, today’s youth is at a crucial moment in history to help turn the SDGs into reality. On February 17 and 18, youth delegates will examine the role of youth leadership and young professionals in the implementation of these global goals.

Option 1: Youth Assembly at the United Nations – Conference only

For the winter edition, NSHSS members can apply with a discounted registration fee at $100 per person to attend the two-day conference.

Accepted delegates shall receive the following, if their applications are submitted by November 30, 2015 (early-bird registration deadline):

• Admission to the 2016 Winter Youth Assembly at the United Nations
  A visit to a Permanent Mission to the United Nations
  A printed version of the Youth Assembly Participation Certificate
  A Youth Assembly Souvenir
  An opportunity to write articles for the Youth Assembly blog on The Huffington Post
  

  Delegates, who apply thereafter, will receive admission to the conference only.

  Option 2: Youth Assembly at the United Nations – Event Package

  Friendship Ambassadors Foundation also offers accommodation, meal, and special networking opportunities during the conference through an affordable event package. For NSHSS members interested in the availing the Youth Assembly Event Package, a $50 discount will be discounted from the original package costs.

  Discounted package cost for NSHSS members:

  $985 per person based in single room occupancy

  • Travel insurance (All participants are required to purchase travel insurance and show proof prior to the event)
  • Personal incidentals & expenses

  All applicants who registered for the event package are eligible to win a scholarship (1-2 available). Award amount ranges from $1,000–$2,000. A jury from the Youth Assembly organizers will observe and evaluate each delegate’s performance during the Youth Assembly, and will select the best outstanding delegate(s) to receive the scholarship award at the end of the conference.

  Eligibility:

  • NSHSS high school junior or senior
  • NSHSS college freshmen or sophomore
  • Note that candidate or participant must be at least 16 years of age by February 15, 2016

  Eligible members may apply to attend the two-day conference for a discounted fee at $100 or apply with an event package with a $50 discount off the original package costs through the Youth Assembly website.
