Semester at Sea partners with NSHSS to help provide opportunities for global learning experience beyond high school. SAS offers application fee waivers to all NSHSS college members and a full scholarship annually for the fall voyage. Apply for this scholarship online in the member dashboard by April 1, 2015.

When it comes to studying abroad, students are offered an array of opportunities both near and far, making it seemingly impossible to choose just one country. There are 196 countries in the world, each with its own unique culture. With shipboard study abroad program Semester at Sea, students don’t need to pick just one.

Semester at Sea is a one-of-a-kind study abroad program that gives students the opportunity to see more of the world within a semester. The ship serves as both a home and academic campus to 600+ students, faculty, and staff. With experiential, global comparative learning at its core, Semester at Sea changes the landscape of what it really means to study abroad. This fall, Semester at Sea will sail to Italy, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Morocco, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, and Costa Rica, with a transit of the Panama Canal.

“Semester at Sea quite literally makes the world its campus,” said Institute for Shipboard Education President Kenn Gaither. “Our multi-country program gives students the opportunity to gain valuable cultural and comparative knowledge and experience a variety of countries worldwide.”

Thoughtfully tailored field labs accompany each academic course on a Semester at Sea voyage, bringing the lessons of the classroom into the community. Be it working with sea turtle conservationists on the beaches of Brazil as part of a marine biology class, or discovering local businesses in Italy with an international business class, Semester at Sea gives students hands-on academic experience throughout the world and develops students into global citizens.

In addition to field labs, time in port can be spent exploring independently, or participating in SAS field programs, which are excursions that involve cultural immersion, adventure, and service opportunities. Students may find themselves ballooning over Cappadocia, Turkey one day, or volunteering at an orphanage in Morocco another. The options are endless and Semester at Sea is dedicated to making each port visit a rich and valuable experience.
