NSHSS Member Takes the Gold!

From July 5 until July 12, 2015, Saranesh had his nose down in intense competition at the 46th International Physics Olympiad in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. In addition to winning the gold medal at the International Physics Olympiad, this past March, Saranesh won a 2nd place innovation award at the Intel Science Talent Search in Washington, D.C., winning $75,000. Saranesh has also participated in the USA Math Olympiad Summer Program, and he is ranked among the top 18 math students in the nation.

Saranesh served as president of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Club, the Science Bowl Club, and the Physics Club. In an NSHSS essay competition, he won an opportunity to attend Nobel Week in Stockholm, Sweden, along with 19 other NSHSS members. While in high school, Saranesh took courses offered by Johns Hopkins University, Stanford University, and Diablo Valley College. While researching with physicists at Stony Brook University, New York, Saranesh made discoveries related to artificially-layered perovskite oxide superlattices, and he assisted in initiating a new method of experimental study at the university. Saranesh is among the top 20 physics students and the top few hundred biology and chemistry students in the United States. He plans to attend MIT –Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
