Athletic Training at Georgetown College

Georgetown College is one of only four accredited Athletic Training programs in the state of Kentucky. Building on a liberal arts core, the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) at Georgetown College is looking for students passionate about helping athletes and active people improve their wellness from a healthcare perspective.


Athletic Trainers are healthcare professionals that help prevent, diagnose and treat emergency, acute and chronic medical conditions such as impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities. Athletic Trainers work in many different areas, including:

  • High schools, colleges, and universities (all divisions)
  • Professional sports organizations
  • Olympic programs
  • Hospitals
  • Rehabilitation clinics
  • Physicians’ offices
  • Corporations
  • Industrial institutions
  • Military
  • Law enforcement
  • Performing arts

Athletic Training students at Georgetown College can get valuable internship experiences in a number of different venues, including:

  • Georgetown College Athletic Department
  • Kentucky State University Athletics
  • Scott County High School
  • Central Kentucky Orthopedics
  • Scott County Family Physicians
  • KORT Physical Therapy
  • Scott County Physical Therapy
  • Georgetown Community Hospital’s
  • Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine

Georgetown College has the following requirements for GC sophomores to be admitted into the ATEP program:

  • Minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA
  • Completion of at least 6 credit hours of prerequisites (KHS 185 and BIO 100 or 111) with a grade of C or above
  • 50 hours of direct observation with the Georgetown College ATCs
  • Current CPR & First Aid certification
  • Formal student portfolio including resume, personal statement, letters of recommendation
  • Formal interview with ATEP
  • Admission Committee

NSHSS students are encouraged to apply for the Athletic Training Education Program. Qualified NSHSS students who choose to attend Georgetown College receive a $17,500/year merit-based scholarship.
