NSHSS university partner Dublin City University announces that international peace envoy Senator George J. Mitchell has been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy by Dublin City University on December 13, 2013. Senator Mitchell is recognized for his outstanding service in the cause of peace around the world. 

Mitchell served as a United States Senator from Maine from 1980 to 1995 and as Senate Majority Leader from 1989 to 1995. Since retiring from the Senate, Mitchell has led peace efforts in Northern Ireland and the Middle East.
