Study Abroad Opportunities from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and The University of Wollongong

This month, we would like to announce that Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and The University of Wollongong are both NSHSS Collaborating Universities. Both of these institutions offer outstanding opportunities for NSHSS Members.

Additionally, we are recognizing a long-standing collaborating university—Florida State University—for their recent achievements.

University of Wollongong

The University of Wollongong (UOW) is a leading Australian university with an international reputation for academic excellence. UOW ranks among the top 2% of universities in the world with an enviable record of achievement in teaching and research. It is also provides an inspiring study environment—The City of Wollongong is just an hour's drive south of Australia's largest city, Sydney, and is set in a magnificent coastal environment.

The University offers degree programs across all levels of study (undergraduate and postgraduate coursework and research), as well as English language and academic bridging programs through UOW College. In Australia, UOW brings together 24,500 students and staff from over 160 nationalities.

UOW offers Study Abroad and Exchange programs that are designed for international undergraduate students who wish to spend one or two semesters in a program of study at the University of Wollongong and transfer the credits to their home institution.

The University of Wollongong is offering a scholarship for NSHSS members to study abroad at UOW for one semester.

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University

The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) is one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse universities in Southern Africa. Almost 10% of the NMMU's students are from countries across Europe, the America's, Asia and Africa.

International Students can choose from a range of over 300 degree programmes across 7 Faculties up to PHD level.

The NMMU Office for International Education (international@nmmu.ac.za) also facilitates Study Abroad opportunities for international students in a variety of study fields. They also offer the English as a Foreign Language Programme and a variety of credit bearing Short Programmes giving students an international learning experience and exposure to South African society.

Florida State University ranked No. 12 in Nation for number of students studying abroad

Congratulations to NSHSS Collaborating University, Florida State University (FSU)! FSU is among the nation’s Top 25 universities for the number of students it sent to study abroad for credit, according to a ranking by the Institute of International Education. The popularity of International Programs’ First Year Abroad program, in which students spend their entire first year abroad, has resulted in a No. 6 ranking for Florida State in the category of long-term duration of study abroad programs.

Florida State has 58 years of experience in international education and is a nationally recognized leader in the field of study abroad programs. The university offers more than 60 diverse programs in 20 different locations around the world, including year-round study centers in Florence, Italy; London, England; Panama City, Republic of Panama; and Valencia, Spain. FSU International Programs is committed to providing a quality international learning environment where students are challenged to be learners, leaders, achievers and contributors within a global community.
