National Substance Prevention Network (NSPN)

Knowledge Is Prevention.

The National Substance Prevention Network (NSPN) is a national, student-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing youth substance use prevention through peer education and evidence-informed programming. We translate prevention research into practical, accessible education that empowers young people to make informed decisions.

Our two-tier model connects college student mentors with high school Chapter Leaders. College leaders provide ongoing guidance and resources, while Chapter Leaders lead research-informed case studies, campaigns, and peer discussions in their schools and communities. Through this approach, students develop the knowledge and confidence to navigate peer pressure, support their peers, recognize and respond to emergencies, and become leaders in substance use prevention.

NSHSS handpicks its partners carefully, searching for nonprofits, organizations, and companies that directly align with our mission to provide the best resources for our members and their families. We may receive compensation from our partners, at no cost to you.

Become an NSPN Chapter Leader

NSHSS members in grades 9–12 can apply to lead an NSPN chapter at their school or in their community. Chapter Leaders explore evidence-informed case studies, lead peer discussions, and organize prevention activities that make a difference.

Along the way, they receive ongoing mentorship from college student leaders, access to prevention resources, valuable leadership experience, and volunteer service hours for eligible
chapter activities.
